Planning a destination wedding is exciting.
It’s also full of questions.
Even after choosing your venue, there are still dozens of small decisions to make.
When should the ceremony start?
How much time should you allow for photographs?
Where should guests stay?
Should you organise transport?
How long should dinner last before the first dance?
These are questions that don’t always have one perfect answer.
After photographing weddings in North Cyprus for many years, I’ve learned that the most successful weddings usually aren’t the ones with the biggest budgets.
They’re the ones where everything feels relaxed.
Here are a few pieces of advice I regularly share with my couples.
Don’t Try to Plan Every Minute
One of the biggest mistakes I see is creating a timeline that’s too full.
Every five minutes is scheduled.
Every activity has an exact time.
Every delay feels like a problem.
The reality is that weddings rarely follow the timeline perfectly—and that’s completely normal.
Leave a little space between each part of the day.
It gives everyone time to breathe, enjoy conversations and simply be present.
Ironically, those unplanned moments often become the memories couples treasure most.
Think About Your Guests
Destination weddings aren’t only about the couple.
They’re also about the people who travelled hundreds or even thousands of miles to celebrate with you.
Simple things make a huge difference.
Providing water before the ceremony.
Organising transport if guests are staying in different hotels.
Giving everyone enough time to enjoy the village.
Sharing useful information before they travel.
When guests feel relaxed, the whole wedding feels relaxed.
Sunset Is Worth Waiting For
One question I often hear is:
“When should we schedule our couple portraits?”
My answer is almost always the same.
Don’t rush immediately after the ceremony.
Spend time with your family first.
Celebrate.
Have a drink.
Talk to your guests.
Then, just before sunset, disappear together for fifteen or twenty minutes.
The light at Bellapais during golden hour is extraordinary.
More importantly, by that point you’ll have forgotten about the camera and simply enjoy a quiet moment together.
Those photographs almost always become favourites.
Wear Shoes You Can Enjoy the Day In
Bellapais is a beautiful historic village.
It also has charming stone streets.
While high heels look wonderful, many brides appreciate bringing a second pair of comfortable shoes for walking between the Abbey and the reception.
It’s a small detail that makes a surprisingly big difference.
Comfort always helps people smile more naturally.
Your Wedding Doesn’t Need to Be Perfect
Something unexpected will probably happen.
The music may start a few minutes late.
Someone will forget something.
